Dr Charlotte Ball "Medicine and Magic in Anglo Saxon England"

Friday 5th March 2021, 20:00-20:00
"I graduated with my PhD from the University of Leicester in 2018. My research focused on the image of the serpent in early medieval iconography, taking a cross-disciplinary approach to trace symbolic meaning behind animals in art and literature. Since graduating, I founded a private education business which provides  tuition, resources and (until recently!) workshops for schools studying early medieval England. I am an independent scholar who enjoys speaking about my favourite subjects whenever I can!"

"The lecture is an exploration of medical manuscripts extant from Anglo-Saxon England. We will explore the character of medical literature from this time, their provenance and examine the role of animals and poisons in the early-medieval understanding of medicine."
