Organised by Shropshire Archaeological & Historical Society, the event, entitled 'Sun and Fire: Shropshire in Prehistory', coincides with the Sun and Fire Exhibition at the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery (SM&AG) which is running until 30th April 2025. The Day School will be a very full and interesting day, starting at 9.45 am through to 6.00 pm, with a wine reception before the end of proceedings. The accompanying flyer provides a summary of the programme of speakers and what to expect throughout the day.
There are two venues and they are: Abbeygate Hall, The Cut Visitor Centre, 193 Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, SY2 6AH and then, after a break for lunch, SM&AG, The Square, Shrewsbury, SY1 1LH. The talks in the morning will be followed by the chance in the afternoon to visit the Sun and Fire Exhibition and/or explore the SM&AG, including a presentation about the redisplay of the museum, the usual entrance cost being covered under the Day School admission. The exhibition is interactive and, entitled 'Sun & Fire - life and death at the dawn of history', it provides an experience of life in Shropshire between 2500 BCE and the arrival of the Romans in 43 AD. SM&AG has been working in partnership and collaboration with the British Museum on an initiative to rework display of the County's prehistory.
