Amongst the notable Members of this Society in the past was the late Professor Mick Aston, landscape archaeologist and academic of high repute (1946-2013).
Born in the West Midlands and well known for his television appearances, especially as a principal contributor to Channel 4's Time Team programme, Mick was for a period of years between the early 1970s and into the 1980s a Member of the then South Staffordshire Archaeological & Historical Society.
His development as an accomplished archaeologist was in part honed whilst attending the Society's long-running excavation projects at Roman Letocetum (Wall) near Lichfield, at the time under the stewardship of people like Bert Round and Jim Gould.
His specialty was to become early medieval landscape archaeology.
Mick did on occasion come back to see us in later years and entertained the Membership by giving a well attended lecture.
