Proposed Closure of the Museum of Cannock Chase

4th December 2024

We bring to your attention what this Society considers to be alarming news!

Information coming to light from Cannock Chase District Council (as at 28th November) suggests the Local Authority are considering closure of the Museum of Cannock Chase, likely to take place in the spring of 2025, or so it has been indicated.  All staff will be made redundant.  You may wish to find out more; meantime you can sign the petition to save the Museum by clicking on the link appended below (NB SA&HS is not connected to, and is independent of, this petition).  There is secondly a link to take you to details of the public consultation process arrangements, which will include drop-in sessions, including at the MoCC itself - beware the consultation period may be short.

We SA&HS consider this proposed closure an adverse development and intend to hold a 'watching brief', looking to see what steps may be open to us as a group; to help save this important link to the wider district of Cannock's rich mining heritage, in particular.

It is understood that the future of the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock is also under review and it is in jeopardy, currently also set to close.  Whilst outside our 'interest' remit per se, this additionally is a matter of concern it has to be said.
