1. On Wednesday 25th March at 2.00 pm Dr Mike Kingman will present Two Early Catholic Chapels in Staffordshire. Mike will describe the many difficulties and discrimination facing Catholics after the Act of Uniformity in 1559 and beyond, with a particular emphasis on the survival of the Catholic faith in the county Staffordshire. The building of a Catholic chapel in Wolverhampton in 1728 will be examined; then the construction of the Chapel of St Francis de Sales in Yoxall in 1793/4 .
2. On Wednesday 22nd April at 2.00 pm Cathy Turner will present The Asylum Project. Cathy will discuss the latter (project) undertaken by a team of volunteers who have conducted research focused on the patient experience at the Victorian Asylum in Stafford during the period 1818-1920; a project funded by Staffordshire Archives and Heritage, and the Wellcome Trust.
Both talks are free to attend, though an intention to be there should be advised in advance. An added bonus of tea, coffee and biscuits on hand on both occasions. The talks will be held in the Hildegarde Simon Room at Staffordshire History Centre, 19A Eastgate Street, Stafford, ST16 2LZ.
