The Festival of Archaeology 2026 starts today!

24th July 2026

Over the next two weeks, people across the UK will be heading out on walks, visiting excavations, trying ancient crafts, joining online talks and discovering the archaeology hidden in the places around them.

This year’s theme is Archaeology and Nature. We’ll be exploring how people have shaped the natural world over thousands of years, what archaeology can tell us about changing landscapes and how understanding the past can help us make better decisions for nature, climate and people today.

We’re beginning the Festival at Westonbirt, the National Arboretum, with a day of archaeology, nature, music, traditional skills and hands-on activities. But wherever you are, there are plenty of ways to take part.

Go to the Council for British Archaeology website here for more details.
